GOING BUSH
Monday, 27 February 2012 00:00
The television show about forests and what makes them tick, Going Bush, has truly gone national.
The series is presented by lovable larrikins Andrew Hart and Nick Duigan. The five-program series was shown during February and March across the free-to-air Southern Cross network in regional South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory, Canberra and Tasmania.
In this series Nick and Andrew look into the future and innovative ways of processing wood, find out from scientists looking after the habitat of the rare long-footed poteroo in the Gippsland forest that their feet aren’t really all that long, go bat trapping in Northern New South Wales not far from where a third generation of the Hurford family continue to meet the challenges of the timber game.
They go from the remote wilds of Tasmania’s west coast to an upscale Sydney boardroom and face to face with advertising king John Singleton to hear his take on the mystique of Huon pine.
The management of some of Australia’s oldest plantation forests around Mount Gambier, how trees controversially harvested at Bermagui have become a focal point for the town, what happens to all the parts of a Victorian mountain ash – some made into furniture and some into high quality paper, using low grade wood to make a unique all-natural and environmentally-friendly cladding product and the carbon debate explained.
In fact that is just a few of the topics covered in the series … so if you’re wanting a laid back and entertaining lesson on what goes on in the forests tune in to Going Bush.
